Suite Fruits was commissioned by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Central Band and premiered by Sergeant First Class Kazuko Haraguchi, Sergeant Toshihiro Inoue (euphonium), Sergeant Major Hiroyuki Kurihara and Sergeant Yohei Azuma (tuba) at the International Tuba Euphonium Association Conference hosted by the US Army Band in Washington DC in January, 2011. It consists of four movements: "The Orange Prelude" describing the calm scenery of the Seto Inland Sea in the state of Ehime, "The Peaches March" portraying the fable about a boy, Momotaro (Peach Boy) and his pals monkey, pheasant and dog, who must defeat ogres (Okayama), a party with wine "The Grapes Waltz" (Yamanashi) and "The Apples Express" celebrating the completion of Tohoku Shinkansen (bullet train) at the same time this work was finished (Aomori). This suite travels up the length of Japan, enjoying the specialty fruits of each region.
