As concert band music goes, this is a fairly substantial piece at about 18 minutes in length. With a distinctly Spanish feel throughout, the piece comprises several sections in contrasting styles. There are quite a few solo passages including five extended solos.
The technical and stylistic demands are significant. For the brass players, the piece is not only tiring but also requires extended range in many of the parts. For instance, the first trumpet part goes to F above high C, all four horn parts reach high C, and the Euphonium solo at the end of the piece spans more than three octaves.
