Clarinettist Acker Bilk originally titled this lovely melody 'Jenny', after his daughter, but the name changed after it's use as the theme for BBC drama 'Stranger on the Shore'. The single (featuring the famous string accompaniment by Leon Young) was first released in 1961 and went on to become the biggest-selling record of 1962, as well as the biggest-selling instrumental record of all time. Lyrics added by Robert Mellin resulted in recordings by Andy Williams and The Drifters, among others. The piece was also featured in the Richard Dreyfuss film 'Mr. Holland's Opus'. This gentle Latin arrangement keeps the solo clarinet well and truly front and centre and includes the unusual harmonic shift at the end - a must for all budding soloists and a nostalgic treat for audiences around the world.
