Published by James Linn (A0.1736175).This is a brass quintet arrangement (2 trpts. in Bb, horn in F, trombone and tuba, with drum set/percussion) of a song and dance number “Steam Heat” from the 1954 Broadway musical “The Pajama Game,” choreographed by Bob Fosse. That same year Patti Page recorded Steam Heat on Mercury Records which broke into the Top Ten on the Billboard Charts. In this arrangement the unique sound effects of a steam radiator are simulated with a metal pipe on pipe, and sizzle cymbal for steam release (alternatively, a cowbell with a cabasa could serve the same purpose). This number swings and has a driving rhythm accentuated by wire brushes on a snare drum, appropriate for jazz gigs and concert programs. Players with advanced intermediate skill is suggested.
