Ryan Nowlin is a new composer to the Standard of Excellence In Concert series of concert band compositions for young bands. Mr. Nowlin currently teaches instrumental music in the Breckville-Broadview Heights School District (Ohio) where he directs high school wind ensemble, marching band, and jazz ensemble. Ryan's Steadfast Overture uses lyrical melodies that are very accessible to the beginning musician.
Written in overture form, this piece gives young students a chance to be expressive. The main theme in each occurrence is treated in a different fashion, keeping it fresh to the ear. Although the middle section is performed at the same tempo, the phrase structure and feel provide the distinct contrast necessary in an overture. Perfect for one of your first concerts or contest/festival performances!
