"Star Trek: First Contact" was released in theaters in 1996. It was historic in that it was the first of the Star Trek films to feature the cast of the television show "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Jerry Goldmith was hired to compose the soundtrack, as he had done for the films "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" and "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier." The Main Title sets the mood for the film by featuring the Horn section in a melody that has been described as a Hymn to Humanity. This is likely because this film tells the story of the Star Trek universe where the people of Earth make First Contact with lifeforms from another planet.
Care has been taken to create an arrangement where the melody is passed from one section to another, to create a true sonic homage of the original soundtrack.
