This is a small prelude, an introduction to the hymn, followed by the entire melody over a pretty new harmonic structure based on a bass that sings descendent predominantly chromatic lines. For the last stanza there is a modulation a half tone higher. At the very end of the piece a remembrance of the same characteristic figuration as in the end of the prelude.
