This arrangement of Stand by Me was originally conceived in 2020 for lower voices and the Swedish vocal ensemble Svanholm Singers. It emerged during the global pandemic as a quiet, reflective reminder of the importance of kindness and human connection in a time marked by uncertainty and isolation. One of the most challenging periods in recent history. The ensemble released the arrangement as a video on October 23, 2020, during a brief easing of lockdown restrictions.
The work later found its way to the concert stage when it was premiered by the Canadian professional ensemble The Leonids on May 12, 2023, at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church in Vancouver. An adaptation for mixed voices, created in 2023, was subsequently premiered by the choirs of Polaris Chamber Choir, British Columbia, Canada, on January 11, 2024.
