Stabat Mater - Kalmus edition
I had to purchase this edition of Rossini's wonderful Stabat Mater for a performance, even though I already have a copy of the Novello edition. This was unfortunate, as the Kalmas edition is way inferior. The paper quality is poor - can see through some pages to the other side. The print quality is dire - the ink bleeds into the paper and the adjacent ink, so that it is often impossible to distinguish lengths of notes, as some beams just look like a thick black bar. In other places, the text and lines are patchy and of inconsistent quality. Overall, the printing looks like a poor quality photocopy. However, probably the most annoying feature of this edition is how the text jumps unpredictably in position from above the staff to below it, making the music very difficult to follow. This is presumably done to reduce space, but it is very irritating. The result is music that looks ugly, cramped and difficult to read. The only advantage is that from SheetMusicPlus.com it was quite cheap!
