St. Peter's Suite for Solo Cello was commissioned by cellist Myron Schwager. Dr. Schwager has been my music professor while I was an undergraduate. However, at the time he was on the faculty of Hartt College of Music in Hartford Connecticut. As a result, the premiere took place in Hartford in St.Peter's Catholic Church. Knowing this ahead of time, I found the hymn tune: ST PETER in my Presbyterian hymnal. (The words often used with this tune are In Christ There Is No East or West). In keeping with this hymn tune, I composed each movement using a section of the melody as a motive. This piece was very well received and has been performed subsequently. I composed St. Peter's Suite for Solo Cello in 2001 and its duration is 13 minutes. The four movements are: I. Tango II. Lament III. Swing IV. Chorale and Chaccone
