By W.C. Handy

SKU: A0.1876171

Composed by W.C. Handy. Arranged by BRIAN W. COPPING. This edition: pdf, streaming. Contest, Festival, Historic, Jazz, Standards, Wedding. 13 pages. EMK Music #1435150. Published by EMK Music (A0.1876171).

By W. C. Handy arranged by Brian W. Copping. Available from sheetmusicplus.com. A very handy (pun intended) little quartet for getting audiences to tap their feet. There is a Third Violin part, which is an Alternative for the Viola, as well as an Optional Contrabass Part so the piece can be performed by a String Orchestra.

St Louis Blues was written by W.C. Handy and published in 1914. It has become an iconic international jazz standard which has been widely recorded. As a result of this and his other compositions, Handy has become known as ‘The Father of the Blues’. In addition to the standard ‘ blues form’, the sixteen bar bridge in the minor key draws on the earlier ‘ Spanish Tradition’ with its ‘tango’ and ‘ habanero’ rhythms.

This product was created by a member of ArrangeMe, Hal Leonard's global self-publishing community of independent composers, arrangers, and songwriters.
