A very handy (pun intended) little quartet for getting audiences to tap their feet. There are Alternative Parts for Eb and Bb Horns (F Horn), Bb Trombones and Eb and Bb Basses all in Treble and Bass Clef.
St Louis Blues was written by W.C. Handy and published in 1914. It has become an iconic international jazz standard which has been widely recorded. As a result of this and his other compositions, Handy has become known as ‘The Father of the Blues’. In addition to the standard ‘ blues form’, the sixteen bar bridge in the minor key draws on the earlier ‘ Spanish Tradition’ with its ‘tango’ and ‘ habanero’ rhythms.
