Warttmann had arranged a good amount of folk music for recorder quartet, with the idea of allowing beginners to play in ensemble with more advanced performers on the lower instruments. In 1981 Universal Edition published four volumes of these arrangements, broken into the four seasons. UE now presents the best of these arrangements in two collections, retaining the verse lyrics and beautiful illustrations from the originals. The first book includes a wealth of classroom or recital pieces from three of the seasons.
