Strange Collection
This book has a strange mix of music. The level is almost all for very young (8 and younger) first year students, but includes the absolute beginner (note reading in middle C position) to the older beginner (slight independence of hands, pedaling, and accidentals). Almost all of the pieces seem to be directed toward young children. Almost all of the pieces have hands alone or easy hands together (strict parallel, contrary, or oblique motion). Almost all of the pieces have easy rhythms (quarter, half, dotted half, and whole notes). Almost all of the pieces are unfamiliar. Almost all of the pieces are songs. The strange thing is that, for such a small collection, there are major exceptions to each of those. It's a great book for some extra Halloween pieces, though! It includes a 5-movement suite of Halloween-themed music. This takes up 4 of the 20 pages.It also provides some break in the monotony of piece/song selections in this ability level, which is always welcome.
