Tijdens een muziekkamp heeft Marc Jeanbourquin 'Spiral’ gecomponeerd voor een tiental muzikanten waaronder hijzelf. Gezien het succes van dit stuk herneemt hij enkele jaren later het thema en ontwikkelt het verder met een knipoog naar Camille Saint-Saëns, een door hem zeer gewaardeerde componist. De afwisseling tussen de mineur- en majeurtoonsoorten en tussen de binaire en ternaire maatsoorten met af en toe een 2/4 maat, verstoort in niets de doorlopende continuïteit van het stuk, die overigens de titel heeft geïnspireerd. Een percussie-intermezzo, onderbroken door onregelmatige maatsoorten, brengt het stuk naar een re-expositie van het oorspronkelijke thema, om crescendo te eindigen. 'Spiral' kan zowel een openings- als finalestuk voor ieder concert zijn.

Marc Jeanbourquin composed 'Spiral' during a music camp, for himself and 9 other fellow musicians. Due to the success of this piece, some years later, he has taken the main theme and developed it, with a kind of tribute to Camille Saint-Saens, one of his favourite composers. The constant changes between the minor and major keys, and between the often changing 2 and 3 feeling, with the occasional 2/4 bar thrown in, do not disrupt the flow of the piece in the slightest; in fact it is what has inspired the title. A percussion interlude, which is broken up by the unregularly occurring meter, brings the piece to a restatement of the original theme, which then ends in a large crescendo. Spiral is perfectly suited to either the opening or the close of any concert.

Lors d’un camp de musique, Marc Jeanbourquin a composé ' Spiral ' pour une dizaine de musiciens, dont il faisait partie. Vu le succès de cette pièce légère, quelques années il reprend le thème et le développe en y ajoutant un clin d’œil à Camille Saint-Saëns, un compositeur très apprécié de Marc Jeanbourquin. L’alternance entre les tonalités majeur-mineur et entre mesures binaires et ternaires , parfois ponctuées d’une mesure en 2/4, ne perturbe en rien cette continuité ininterrompue. C’est d’ailleurs ce qui a inspiré le titre de cette œuvre. Un intermède de percussion entrecoupé de mesures irrégulières amène la pièce à une réexposition de la thématique initiale, pour se terminer en crescendo. ' Spiral ' est aussi bien une pièce d’ouverture qu’un final pour tout concert.

Während eines Musikferienlagers hat Marc Jeanbourquin für zehn Musiker, sich selber mitgerechnet, 'Spiral' komponiert. Angesehen des Erfolges von diesem Stück nahm er einige Jahre später das Thema wieder auf und entwickelte es weiter. Mit einem Augenzwinkern zu Camille Saint-Saëns, einen durch ihn sehr gewürdigten Komponisten. Die Abwechslung zwischen Moll- und Durtonarten und zwischen binären und ternären Taktsorten mit ab und zu einem 2/4 Takt, stört in keinem Fall die durchgehende Kontinuität des Stückes, die übrigens die Quelle der Inspiration für den Titel war. Ein Perkussion-Intermezzo, unterbrochen durch unregelmäßige Taktsorten, bringt das Stück zu einer erneuten Exposition vom ursprünglichen Thema, um in einem Crescendo zu beschließen.
