South African Landscape Nr. 2 is a musical reflection on the Cape of Storms, a place where the ocean and the sky shape every horizon. The work draws on memories of a coast both wild and intimate: the restless power of the sea, the sudden violence of storms, and the deep calm of a beach in the early morning light.
Throughout the piece, the sound world of the string sextet becomes a space where wind, wave, stillness, and distancecan resonate. Long lines evoke the sweep of the shoreline; rhythmic surges mirror the pulse of the tide. There are moments of turbulence and moments of quiet radiance—echoes of nights filled with the continuous breath of the ocean, and of evenings when the sun sinks slowly into the horizon, turning sea and sky to gold.
This music is not a literal depiction, but a recollection shaped by emotion and time—a portrait of landscape as remembered from afar, illuminated by the colours, storms, and silences of the Cape.
