THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE and NIGHT ON BALD MOUNTAIN are settings written especially for the Halloween season but may also be performed whenever descriptive program music is desired. These two selections have been arranged for six-part flute ensemble - two soprano flutes, two alto flutes, and two bass flutes. Soprano Flute I ascends to Bb above high C; a piccolo may be substituted for these few measures, although this part has been written for soprano flute. Key centers are d minor and D Major. Meters include 3/8 and 4/4. Tempo at the end is prestissimo. There are chromatic runs for all flutes. As a result, the difficulty level is 4.5 to 5 on a six point scale. Performance time, at the suggested tempi, is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
