“Songs in the Forest” was sketched, but not completed, during Harrison's two years' stay in North Carolina’s Black Mountain College. In 1992, he revised and completed the quartet for a Black Mountain reunion in San Francisco. The poetry read before each movement is his own, and is published in his poetic collection, “Joys and Perplexities”.
