Composed by N. Rimskij-Korsakov. Arranged by S. Carnelos. This edition: pdf. Opera, Romantic Period. Individual part. 3 pages. Sandro Carnelos #1321380. Published by Sandro Carnelos (A0.1761084).
The "Song of India" (or Pesnya indéiskogo gósta) is one of the most beloved melodies from the Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844–1908). It originates from his 1898 opera, Sadko, which is based on a Russian bylina, or epic folk tale. The opera tells the story of the wandering merchant and gusli player, Sadko.
While originally scored for a tenor voice and orchestra, the work has been frequently transcribed for various instruments. Sandro Carnelos (b. 1962), a talented Italian organist and composer, has given the piece a new life through his arrangement for the organ.
Why the organ? The organ, often called the "King of Instruments," is renowned for its vast tonal palette and dynamic range, capable of mimicking an entire orchestra. Carnelos’s transcription is not just a simple transfer of notes; it is a thoughtful re-imagining that leverages the organ's unique capabilities.
