The melody Praise to the Lord, the Almighty (heard in Bach’s cantata BWV 137) has its origin in 17th century Germany, and is included in the hymnbook Freylinghausen’s Geistreiches Gesangbuch. This hymnbook originates from the beginning of the 18th century and is considered one of the most significant collections of Lutheran chorales published in Bach’s time.This beautiful new work for concert band is based on the internationally known and loved chorale and will make an ideal serene interlude in any concert.

De koraalmelodie Lobe den Herren uit Johann Sebastian Bachs cantate BWV 137 ontstond in de zeventiende eeuw in Duitsland en is opgenomen in het gezangboek Freylinghausen’s Geistreiches Gesangbuch.Dit gezangboek is begin achttiendeeeuw samengesteld en wordt beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste verzamelingen lutherse koralen die ten tijde van Bach zijn gepubliceerd. Deze prachtige fantasie voor blaasorkest van de internationaal bekende en populaire koraalmelodievormt een aangenaam intermezzo in elk concert.

Le choral Lobe den Herren succède au choeur d’ouverture de la Cantate BWV 137 de Jean Sébastien Bach. La mélodie du choral trouve ses origines dans l’Allemagne du XVIIe siècle. Elle a été intégrée l’un des premiers et des plus importants recueils de chorals luthériens publié l’époque de Bach, le recueil de cantiques du théologien Johann Freylinghausen.
