Maurice Journeau composed four sonatinas for piano, the Quatrième Sonatine (tr: fourth sonatina) opus 26 being thus the last of this pianistic form.
It was written in Paris during the Winter months of February-March 1940 and its initial title was Sonatine Eclair (tr: a swift sonatina) which finally became later a mere subtitle.
Just like the second sonatina opus 10, the work is shorter and - according to the composer - less difficult than the sonatinas opus 4 and opus 12. And, contrarily to the previous ones, it remained without any dedicatee.
