Solo harp - Grade 4
SKU: IG.SMW064
Composed by Christopher Wicks. Score and Parts. Imagine Music Publishing #SMW064. Published by Imagine Music Publishing (IG.SMW064).
9 x 12 in inches.
By Christopher M. Wicks. Sonatina in One Movement for Solo Harp contains a brief introduction and coda which are similar to one another, moving each by fits and starts, framing a longer central section with near-perpetual motion in sixteenth notes. Much of the piece is in the Phrygian mode on E, although this then moves to a section in the Aeolian mode, thence to the Dorian, and thence back. The use of the modes is pandiatonic. The modal language maintains a profile of consonance and mild dissonance. The composer states, My attempt is to produce an effect of a contemporary harmonic language while keeping chromaticism, and thus pedal changes for the harpist, to a minimum. This piece was premiered in November 2004 at a recital in Collier House at the University of Oregon, with Therese Hurley, harpist.
