Bassoon & piano
SKU: IG.PDP022
Composed by Luigi Zaninelli. Score and Parts. Imagine Music Publishing #PDP022. Published by Imagine Music Publishing (IG.PDP022).
9 x 12 in inches.
The Sonatina for Bassoon and Piano was commissioned by Professor John Bivins, who taught bassoon at the University of Southern Mississippi. The work is cast in three movements and exploits the fuil range of the bassoon as well as its technical abilities. It is unique in the bassoon's repertoire for the extended solo passage in the A section of the first movement which is later accompanied by the left hand of the piano when that section returns. The second movement is reminiscent of a folksong, charming in its melodic simplicity. The finale explodes in a flurry of triplet figures challenging the digital dexterity of the soloist. John Bivins and pianist Theresa Sanchez presented the first performance of the Sonatina for Bassoon and Piano on a faculty recital at USM's Marsh Hall on 1 April 1992. Prairie Dawg Press is proud to make this outstanding work available for the first time.
