This critical edition of all the sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti is justified by the necessity of offering performers and scholars a text which is philologically faithful to the author's intentions (in so far as this can be reconstructed through a comparative study of the surviving printed and manuscript sources) and which is presented as authentically as possible, free from editorial interference or suggestions for performance or interpretation. A fine critical edition
With Fadini's Volume 9 we now have most of the Scarlatti sonatas except for the Essercizi and a few others. This edition closely adheres to the layout of the notes on the staves in the source materials. For the less advanced performers this can be challenging to read. The performer must decide how to distribute the notes between the hands and add fingerings. The layout on the page is great for page turns. I have customized a copy of the Scarlatti Indice Tematico with Kirpatrick numbers and Fadini's volumes and numbers to index a large portion of the collection.
