While looking for something to work on I heard some violin and piano music on my favorite classical station: Rai Radio. Yes, that is it!!!
It's been two years since I wrote my last violin and piano work: C.P.E. (2023) which I dedicated to violinist extraordinaire, Isabelle Durrenberger.
In the past year, thanks to a recommendation I got from Isabelle, I have been using Cameron Alan-Lee as violinist in many recent recording projects, including my SQ19, SQ20, and next month, SQ21. So I asked if he would be in town to do this new violin and piano piece once I am done. He said he will be here until the end of May.
In my search for a composer for inspiration, I discovered that Paul Hindemith wrote four sonatas for violin and piano and three sonatas for solo violin. I immediately thought I would structure my work in seven parts. Movements 1, 3, 5 and 7 will be with piano. Movements 2, 4, and 6 will be for solo violin.
I. Lebhaft ... Mäßig TRIO II. Scherzo I ... Lebhaft TRIO III. Langsam ... Leicht bewegte IV. Scherzo II ... Schnell. TRIO V. Langsam ... Leicht bewegte VI. Scherzo III ... Sehr schnell TRIO VII. Sehr langsam.
