I liked it
A pianist friend of mine told me about this Chavez sonata, I've played it several tmes and I might say that I'm full with it. Though Chavez is mostly known for his orchestral works he composed in his progressive period this work for piano might fall into his first compositional years. It's of those kind of works that make you give yourself over to the keyboard, requires nimbleness. Descriptive score indications are so present along the 3 movements, its boldness gives this work that virtuosic piano style. The piano virtuoso Ignaz Friedman was favorably impressed by the freshness and originality of this 25 minute long sonata that he convinced the German firm Bote & Bock to publish it for the first time in 1923 so it's not new in the market at all. -Artimus
