“Somewhere My Love” is the song version of “Lara’s Theme” from the 1965 film Doctor Zhivago. The melody was composed by Maurice Jarre, and Paul Francis Webster later added the lyrics. It became a big hit in the mid-1960s, especially through recordings by Andy Williams and Ray Conniff and His Singers. The song is a lush, romantic ballad, and the lyrics are tied to the film’s love story and bittersweet tone.

A simple way to think of it: the instrumental theme from the movie came first, then it was turned into a pop song with words.
