What Exactly is Soft Shoe? Unlike the usual tap dancing, which uses shoes with metal plates (cleats) on the toe and heel, the Soft Shoe was originally performed in leather-soled shoes without taps.
The Sound focuses on the friction between the shoe and the floor. Instead of loud percussive beats, you get a muted, rhythmic sliding sound.
The Style is characterized by humour, wit, and a "cool" nonchalance. The upper body remains relaxed, often using props like canes or hats.
It’s less about athletic power and more about finesse and elegance.
