This book is perfect for intermediate to advanced players who want to employ a more versatile approach to slow blues playing. The contents could stand alone as a compendium of blues progression variations, employable on all types of blues music including but not limited to slow blues, but there is so much more. Four different keys and crosses, plus liberal use of all three registers of the instrument, will prove just how versatile a 10-hole C diatonic harp can be. Each of the 16 solos, written and recorded by renowned blues-harpist Steve Cohen, is chock full of great licks and techniques for you to learn and incorporate into your playing: scale licks, octave licks, overblow licks, incremental bend licks, high-note blow bend licks, warble licks. The variety of slow blues changes and feels include: 12-bar and 8-bar progressions, stop-time, country blues, jazzy blues, minor blues, major blues, shuffles, straight time and more. This book contains detailed harmonica transcriptions written in standard notation and harmonica tab; a summary list of the key, position, and song format; and a brief lesson about the chord progression and highlighted playing techniques. Each solo has two audio tracks: a demo with Steve Cohen and a full professional band, and a play-along backing track.

Solid Blues Licks for Live Use
A practical book for expanding your blues harmonica vocabulary. The 16 solos by Steve Cohen offer a great variety of licks and techniques that are immediately usable in a gig setting. The range of blues progressions ensures you're ready for different requests. The online backing tracks are a huge plus for practice. Wish it explicitly included chord charts for guitarists, but the lessons on progressions help.

Fun Way to Master Slow Blues Harmonica!
I absolutely love this book! As an adult learner, I found the 'intermediate to advanced' label a good challenge, but achievable with practice. The demo tracks with Steve Cohen and the band really help you understand how it should sound, and playing along with the backing tracks is so much fun. I'm already incorporating new licks and feeling like a blues pro!

Insightful for Ensemble Blues Dynamics
While not directly for vocalists, this harmonica collection offers excellent insight into blues harmony and solo phrasing that's valuable for any musician coaching an ensemble. The diverse blues progressions and harmonica textures presented by Steve Cohen can inform how a singer or another instrument might interact with or support a blues harp. Good for understanding collaborative blues.
