His music is typically very lyrical and deeply inspired by the rich musical heritage of his native Seville. The Sinfonia Sevillana was composed in 1920 and appeared almost simultaneously with another orchestral masterpiece, the Danzas fantásticas. Both pieces are dedicated to the Spanish poet José Mas. The Sinfonia Sevillana, is a masterful portrait of Turina's home city. Its three movements beautifully evoke the Sevillan countryside, displaying the city in a wide range of moods and vibrant colors.
