Simon, Son of John 4-Part - Sheet Music

SATB choir, organ

SKU: C5.5145

Composed by Michael Starke. Text: Saint John 21:15-17. Dailogue between Christ (basses) and Peter (SAT). General, Ordination. Octavo. Published by CanticaNOVA Publications (C5.5145).

Michael Starke, from Portland, Oregon, has created an interesting dialogue between Christ and Saint Peter, as found in John's Gospel (Jn 21:15-17). The words of Christ are sung by the basses: "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter's reply is sung in fluid counterpoint by the upper three voices: "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." "Feed my lambs," the basses sing on three dotted-half-note Gs. This pattern, repeated three times, is accompanied by a simple, effective organ part, with a short introduction and coda to begin and end the piece. Particularly appropriate on the Third Sunday of Easter (C) where this passage of John's Gospel is read, Simon, Son of John may also be used for ordinations, on any feasts celebrating Peter or the apostles, Masses for the pope or the bishop, or liturgies with the theme of service and dedication.
