The cello plays the main melody with contrasting dynamics, alternating between "mezzo-forte" and "piano". The piano accompanies the melody with chords in the right hand and a bass line in the left hand. On the second time through, the cello plays the melody in a higher octave. The piano remains playing the accompaniment with eighth notes on the second beat.
