Das vierteilige Werk verwendet verschieden Psalmtexte und kann als Gesamtwerk, aber auch in Abschnitten aufgefuhrt werden. Ausgedehnte Vor- und Zwischenspiele der Orgel setzt er meisterhaft zur Ausdeutung der Texte ein. Verwendet werden die Psalmtexte Sei nur stille, meine Seele, in Gott (Psalm 62, 6-9), Gott, sei mir gnadig (Psalm 51, 3, 12-13), Herr, Gott, du bist unsere Zuflucht (Psalm 90, 1-2,4-6) und Herr, unser Herrscher (Psalm 8, 1, 4-5).
