Shore to Shore is a composition based on a sentence by the Swedish author Björn Ranelid, translated by Kim Loughran: "To live is to swim from the shore I to the shore you in the sea we." This sentence has been joined by the composer David Åberg to a verse in the Song of Solomon: "Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it."
The piece was originally written as a competition entry: the annual "Emerging composers competition", initiated by the Cerddorion Vocal Ensemble based in New York City. It won first prize and had its first performance by the choir at the prize ceremony in St. Paul’s Church (New York City) in June 2018.
