Grade 2 - This piece for middle school students features a musical portrait of pirates and crashing waves. The 6/8 A section is in D major, featuring hooked bowings and good arpeggio exercises. The B section, in 2/4 and D minor with melody initially in the low strings, has the character of a sea chantey. It can be played all in first position and will require extensions to C sharp for upper strings and cello.
