Shenandoah is a beloved traditional American folk song dating back to the early 19th Century. The origins are threefold: a Sea Shanty sung by sailors at work or French Canadian voyageurs on the river, the Oregon Trail pioneers sang it as they crossed the Missouri River while heading west, or named after Chief Shenandoah of the Oneida Nation who's daughter fell in love with a fur trader. The song has been recorded by many great artists and is also the state song of Virginia.
