Sharp Attack! was written as a piece for the Stringtastic Series of tutor books. It was conceived as a homage to 90s dance tracks but took on a Latin flavour during its composition. The work builds around repeated rhythmical motifs that come together in all sorts of combinations. It is written in the key of G# minor, which has five sharps and there are a few extra sharps floating around in the music. Hence the title, Sharp Attack. Originally a string quartet, this extended version for violin and piano version is full of technical difficulty and unexpected twists and turns of harmony.
