This arrangement of Shake It Off is written specifically with middle school marching bands in mind, keeping everything fun, playable, and high energy. The ranges are comfortable for all instruments so no one is straining to hit notes, and every part is doubled with at least one other section so the sound stays full and confident no matter the size of the band. The groove is light and driving, with plenty of space for the rhythm section to shine and keep the energy moving forward. In the middle, the music breaks into an HBCU style chant that builds excitement on the field, using the harmony and melody from the song in a way that invites the whole band and crowd to get involved. It is designed to be a piece that students love to play, directors find easy to teach, and audiences can’t help but move along to.
Nothing is too difficult for younger musicians in this arrangement. All percussion parts have sticking that doesn't involve difficult crossovers. Triplets are followed by quarter notes to give rhythmic grace for your young percussionists.
