Surely an unusual combination, three trumpets. Especially for a fully conceived multi-movement piece. A fanfare sets the tone of the first movement, which is followed by contrasting lyrical passages. The slow second movement uses the muted tones of the trumpets providing a veiled, mysterious quality to the sound. A rollicking romp brings the piece to a brilliant conclusion.
