Santiago Abadía's new release Serenade of Insights for solo piano is now available both as sheet music on digital stores and as a single on music streaming platforms (links below).
The musical term serenade, in italian “serenata”, comes from the latin “serenus”; that which is clear, fair, bright, serene and tranquil. It defines a light piece of music, without specific form, that originated in the medieval era and which was sung and performed at night time to a lover or honorable person through a window. Serenade of Insights is a tribute to human experiences that bring deeper understandings about life on earth and other higher dimensions. Sometimes, these insights or epiphanies arise suddenly as in an “aha moment” and we might be tempted to exclamate “eureka!”.
The piece is based on circular motifs and spiral progressions. The left hand plays a stable five
note accompaniment figure while the right hand sings a flowing melody alternating short
arabesques with long sustained notes. The first exposition of the theme ends abruptly on a
sustained E7b10 chord (the aha moment). It then reinititates itself and introduces variations
until it reaches a second stop (another insight or epiphany). At this point there is a brief
interlude serving as a B section or bridge leading into a final resolution with a slower tempo
and tranquil energy.
