Der Holländer Willem van Otterloo (1907-1978) hat sich vor allem als Dirigent weltweit einen Namen gemacht. Sein kompositorisches Werk ist relativ klein, aber bemerkenswert. Die dreisätzige Serenade wurde ursprünglich für zwölf Blechbläser, Klavier, Harfe, Celesta und Schlaginstrumente geschrieben. Diese Bearbeitung für Brass Band mit ausgedehntem Schlagzeugregister wird dem Original voll und ganz gerecht.
