Der Bückeburger Konzertmeister Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach (1723-1795) war als der sanfte Musiker der Bach-Familie bekannt, der ein eher beschauliches Leben führte. Die ursprüngliche Besetzung seiner sechs Sonaten war ein Quartett für Flöte, Violine, Viola und bezifferten Bass, geschrieben ca. 1780/85. Die Sonaten sind voll von melodischen und experimentellen Einfällen und Spielfiguren. Es sind entzückende Kompositionen im galanten Stil und eignen sich besonders für Vortrag und Unterricht.
