Composed by John Ireland. Secular, 20th Century. Vocal score. Galaxy Music Corporation #1.5180. Published by Galaxy Music Corporation (EC.1-5180).UPC: 600313151804. English. Text: John Mansfield.
This song fittingly captures the essence of "Sea Fever." To begin with, in the song, a woman speaks vividly of nature and describes how her life breaks with the tide. She expresses a great desire and need to feel the ocean's calming and yet ominous and ever-changing ways. She says, "I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life." The vocal range is from E4 to G5. The voice part is predominently in triplet figures representing the ever-changing tide while the piano is in blocked chords characterizing the calm of the sea. In this way, the musical and lyrical aspects combined create an ultimate feeling of "Sea Fever.".

Sea Fever
This is a great song for a middle school boy to sing. This text refers to a young sailor getting ready to put out to sea and his eventual return home where he will laugh about the adventure and live a quiet peaceful life. The a minor version is great for a young tenor who might not yet be able to sing low c or d.
