This book is really helpful, fun!
I found this book and have used it a lot over the past few years. It encourages the student to improvise but gives some structure, w/o too much. I have also used the teacher accomps as a springboard to practicing my own improv skills. I am an avid listener to jazz, and many genres, combining jazz, etc. However, my training was strictly classical growing up and in my BM and MM in piano performance. So, the students come up with great ideas, and I just love it, too! I would rate it upper elementary, or just to use once the student learns basic Major and minor 5 finger scales, and that varies with the age/ability of the student!

Great Intro to Scales/Keys
This is the best introductory scale book I've come across. It has just about everything. For each key there is a 5 finger scale (makes scales not so scary at first...), a basic cadence using the I and V7 chords, and a fun hand crossing arpeggio. And not just that: There is also a song for almost every key! It is a great way to introduce students to new keys and prime them for full scale playing in the future. There is also an improv option which I don't use as often as I'd like, but those have been helpful in introducing the concept of improvisation to my younger players.

GREAT
This book is a wonderful tool! Ths introduction of scales and arpeggios incorporates improvisation and is sufficiently reinforced with another piece on the next page! Can't wait until book 2 comes out!
