This work was conceived as a gift for two sisters –then violin students aged 11 and 8– who later pursued highly successful careers. The three movements explore techniques and sonic textures inspired by pictorial themes, endowing the music with a visual and expressive character.
The harmonic and rhythmic framework draws upon the sisters’ onomastical numbers (4-5-8 and 6-5-8), their birth numbers (3-4-6 and 5-8-9), as well as the sequences 9-7, alluding to the composer, and 11-8, denoting the dedicatees’ ages. This numerical scheme underpins a concert piece’s emotional architecture, in line with the technical proficiency of the performers at that time.

Esta obra foi concebida como presente para duas irmãs –então estudantes de violino com 11 e 8 anos– que mais tarde seguiram carreiras de grande sucesso. Os três andamentos exploram técnicas e texturas sonoras inspiradas em temas pictóricos, dotando a música de um carácter visual e expressivo.
A estrutura harmónica e rítmica baseia-se nos números onomásticos das jovens (4-5-8 e 6-5-8), nos seus números de nascimento (3-4-6 e 5-8-9), bem como nas sequências 9-7, alusiva ao compositor, e 11-8, referente às idades das dedicatárias. Essa combinação numérica sustenta a arquitetura emocional de uma peça de concerto, de acordo com a competência técnica das intérpretes na época.
