This song premiered in the multimedia production of : Marco Polo-A Folk Opera in September of 2002 in Saint John , New Brunswick Canada, with no “classical “ affectations .Having heard it performed there, Chris asked Jim if he would mind her trying her hand at arranging it for strings and woodwinds.
Here she has scored it as a Sextet or for the Low Strings in a String Orchestra featuring solo Soprano, Voice, Flute & English Hon .This young girl's story never ceases to move me. Jim the poet, turned lyricist, knocked this one out of the park! As a sextet in an intimate setting or using the low strings in an orchestral setting as in the sound bite posted here, will bring an emotional outpouring from all who experience it; especially from the Grannies in the hall. The English Horn and Flute soloists weave their sad and lovely echoes around the Soprano’s deep regrets at leaving her homeland, her dog, her friends and ....that Granny who could not bring herself to say goodbye. Chris has also scored this song with a Bassoon in place of the English Horn. (watch for it) .
