Dieterich Buxtehude's Keyboard Suite has provided a sarabande and a courante in contrasting styles and tempos. Opening with strings and a clarinet soloist, the sarabande moves through the strings and brass, giving way to sparkling woodwind and trumpet solos in the courante, and closing with a full orchestra recapitulation of the sarabande. At a little over 5 and a half minutes, it is a substantial but not over-long piece that will provide connection with an important part of music history.
