This traditional Christmas standard was written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie. When Eddie Cantor’s recording of the song was played on the radio in 1934, it was an instant hit, selling more than 500,000 copies of the sheet music and more than 30,000 records within 24 hours.
The song has been recorded by over 200 artists including Bing Crosby, The Andrew Sisters, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Mariah Carey, The Temptations, Michael Bublé and a host of other popular singers. In 1975, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band recorded a Rock version that receives radio airplay every Christmas season.
