Sage Petit Prince is a piece inspired by “Le Petit Prince” (The Little Prince), the famous
self-illustrated novella by french author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900-1944). In his
masterpiece, de Saint-Exupéry, also an aviator, narrates his encounters while being stranded
in the desert after a crash with a young imaginary prince fallen to Earth from a tiny asteroid.
This poetic tale unfolds into short chapters about the young prince’s odyssey to planet Earth
and his views on humankind. Interestingly, as the story develops, the little prince is revealed
as the pure and innocent being from whom de Saint-Exupéry and we, the readers, get to learn
the essence of love, ethics and life.
The piece can be divided into four sections. The first two consist of a tender lullaby followed
by a vivid interlude evoking a newborn's life and early childhood. The third section is akin to
a cinematic intergalactic travel scene with its build up and voyant bursts of special effects.
The final section symbolizes a return to the initial state within a spiral movement, thus
suggesting a more evolved entity. Sage Petit Prince was written for my nephew at the time
when he was travelling to planet Earth from a distant asteroid.
