Rondes de printemps (!) is the most recent work in this programme, specifically written for Sandro.
It was composed in May 2020, lulled by the sunny days typical of the Perche region of Northwestern France, When a vicious virus had caused the World as we knew it to become silent. li ls certainly one of my mosl radical and uncompromising pieces, given the unambiguous nature of the purpose.
It involves a series of loops und constantly con?icting patterns, a polyphonic texture given over to a single monodic instrument, musical ideas that shrink and expand, and relenlless geslures that require a formidable level of rhythmic precision.
Despite the reference in the title to Claude Debussy, there is no explicit link with the impressionist composer, save perhaps a teste for continuous melodies and fleeting arabesques.
